6,500 m², five (5) storey state-of-the-art animal research facility, including bio-safety level 1 & 2 laboratories (standard, radioactive, high hazard, perchloric), -40°C cold rooms and administrative area.
Mechanical systems included central variable volume lab ventilation system which comprised of make-up air supply, hood exhaust and general exhaust systems, with air flow tracking for each lab for pressurization controls. Lab air handling system included glycol run-around heat recovery system for energy conservation. Special laboratory systems included central RO water supply, medium pressure steam, central liquid nitrogen and compressed air; individual gas cylinder storage areas were incorporated for groups of labs. -40°C cold rooms were provided for specimen storage. Fire protection system included a combination of wet and dry pipe sprinklers and fire hose cabinets. A dedicated glycol heat rejection system was provided for areas of high cooling demand.
The building included sustainable design & energy efficient features such as heat reclaim, individual hood air flow control, airflow and temperature reset, green roof and re-use of rain water for irrigation.
